KSISTERS CLEANSER SPECIAL!

In this campaign, we are finally talking about cleansers! Cleansing is the FIRST STEP to kickstart your daily skincare routine and is the basis of every regime. It is no surprise that in Korea, cleansers are viewed as the most fundamental step.

This is because cleansers help to remove accumulations of oils, excess sebum, makeup, sweat, dirt and dead skin cells from your skin. All of these things clog your pores which may lead to issues like breakouts and rough skin texture.

Take a look at our IGTV with Tasha to find out more about cleansers and how cleansing will help boost your skincare!

Why is cleansing so important in Korean skincare?

Koreans believe in good skin more than having to wear a lot of makeup. This is why they try their best to ensure that their skin are free from any makeup, dirt, oil, sebum or dead skin cells that may clog pores and cause future problems. Cleansing in Korean beauty is also a form of hydration because most Korean cleansers have moisturising ingredients that help manage the skin's pH level.

Many people believe that good cleansers are the ones that leave your skin feeling "squeaky clean" but that actually does more harm than good. Harsh cleansers often strip away moisture from your skin, leaving it dry. This makes the skin more alkaline which often leads to problems like flaking skin and wrinkles.

This acid mantle is also referred to as the hydro-lipid film, a protective slightly acidic film that sits on the skin surface, acting as the interface between you and the world.

This mantle discourages the growth of fungi and bacteria. It was also discovered that chronic alkalisation can knock this acid mantle out of balance, which can lead to inflammation, dermatitis, and atopic skin diseases.

pH is measured from 1, with 1 being highly acidic, 14 being highly alkaline and 7 being neutral.

The optimal pH value of human skin is 4.75 ~ 5.75, which is slightly acidic. Skin pH level is highly related to the condition of the skin and its protection layer.

If your skin is fairly acidic, it helps ward off the advances of harmful bacteria and fungi. Germs and bacteria can't grow under a pH level of 6.

If your skin is closer to alkaline, your skin can be easily damaged and troubled since germs and bacteria grow better in more alkaline pH levels.

The different types of cleansers

Cleansers come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, textures and consistency! Take a look at some of the different cleanser types available in the market!

How to choose your cleansers?

There is not one ultimate cleanser type that is better than the rest. But some types may help certain skin types better than others. Here's a simple comparison chart to show you what types of cleansers work best for each skin type!

The Korean method of Double Cleansing

Double cleansing is a very common skincare method that is widely used among Koreans. It is a 2-step process that involves the use of makeup removers followed by facial cleansers.

Double cleansing is a great way to thoroughly remove any dirt or impurities on the skin that may not have been entirely removed in one step such as sebum, SPF, makeup and external pollutants.

Step 1: Makeup Removers

Makeup removers are usually the first step of any skincare routine. Not only do they remove makeup, it is also a great step to remove the surface layer of accumulated dirt and oil. Even if you do not use makeup on a daily basis, makeup removers can help to remove excess oils, sebum and SPF.

Step 2: Facial Cleansers

Facial cleansers are the second step to double cleansing whereby they thoroughly remove all remaining impurities on the skin. These cleansers often come as gels, foam and even powders! Some products even provide a gentle exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and smooth the skin's texture.

For this campaign, we have prepared 3 Double Cleansing Routines for the 3 different skin types, Oily/Combination, Dry and Sensitive skin!
